Derek’s Story

Pastor Derek is deeply passionate about God, people, and life. He believes the most fulfilling and exciting life is a Spirit-filled life of total surrender as a disciple of Jesus Christ. His passion is contagious and evident in all that he does. Known as a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, Pastor Derek communicates a relevant and life-giving message of victorious living through faith, obedience to Christ, and the Word of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Derek is no stranger to church leadership or ministry. As an ordained minister for over 20 years, he has traveled to 25 nations as a missionary, conference speaker, Bible teacher, and church consultant. Prior to returning to Orange County, he served for 16½ years as Executive Pastor at City Harvest Church Singapore, one of Asia’s fastest-growing churches. During that time, he witnessed revival and extraordinary growth, seeing the church expand from 1,500 to over 32,000 in average weekly attendance, with 76% first-time decisions for Christ. Through this season, Pastor Derek experienced firsthand the power of discipleship in sustaining a genuine move of God.

In obedience to God’s call and with the blessing of church leadership, Pastor Derek and his wife, Susan, returned to the United States and co-founded City Harvest Church Orange County in March 2013, now known as Alive Church Orange County. Together, they continue to pastor with a heart to see lives transformed and disciples raised for the Kingdom of God.

Pastor Derek and Susan are the proud parents of three teenage children.
